"To the Editor" Letter to the editor" Susan Denton

To the Editor
Laura Petit is running for the Ulster County Legislature in District 8/Esopus.   A 35-year resident of Esopus, Laura is well known in her community for her service in a food recovery program for local churches and agencies and for her advocacy for humane treatment of animals.  The list of her other service positions in Esopus includes the library board and the Advisory, Zoning, and Environmental boards.  Service is not just a campaign slogan for her; she walks the talk.

Laura is familiar to her neighbors in New Paltz as the friendly and efficient coordinator of the New Paltz recycling center.  In that capacity she wrote several grants that were funded in excess of one million dollars.  Other communities should be as fortunate to have an official who can bring outside funding to their projects that promote economic development, infrastructure¸ environmental protection, and the social safety net.  She has initiated an Esopus Repair Café that utilizes the volunteer skills of community members to reduce waste and enhance sustainability.

Previously elected to two terms in the legislature, Laura knows how county government can work effectively to improve the lives of people and communities.  She has the knowledge, experience, and skill to be a leader in the legislature, and she has the heart to put people first.  Laura Petit deserves the enthusiastic support of Esopus voters.
